Hey {{first_name|bro}},
You probably think that you’re doing everything right… right?
Maybe you are.
Maybe this email is completely useless.
Or maybe, just maybe…. you’re making a tiny mistake that’s literally costing you your career.
Guess you’ll have to keep reading to find out, huh?
There was this guy named Diogenes.
This guy was SUPER into minimalism. I mean, he basically had nothing. A cloak, a staff because he was like 80, and a bag for begging. (that’s it)
No home. No bed. No fire.
He did this because he was actually trying to have as little as possible. His life goal was essentially only use what he needed.
And he ALMOST did this.
He was basically doing everything right in my book.
But there’s one thing he owned that I didn’t tell you about. You see, he had a bowl.
Not for eating. Not for pooping. But for drinking water. Yeah I know, that’s crazy but it was a different time.
Anyways, Diogenes is lounging around one day and notices a kid.
He’s by a little lake.. and hes using his hands to scoop up water out of the lake.
BOOM!
Just like that, Diogenes’ life goal (which he thought he was accomplishing)… collapses in front of him.
(he didn’t really need the bowl he could’ve used his hands)
Now, WHAT IN THE EVER LIVING DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH COPYWRITING?
Well, you’ve got a bowl.
Whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish—whether it be copywriting or traveling or WHATEVER—you didn’t get “it” because of a bowl.
Obviously it’s not a literal bowl, but it’s something hiding back there.
Something you wouldn’t normally question. Something you’d think, “oh yep that’s fine.”
But really, it’s eating your dreams as we speak.
I don’t know what your bowl is, but it’s hiding there. In your daily life, when you sit down to write copy, even when you’re outreaching.
So next time you do something, question it. Am I doing this right? do I need this? Why is this important?
It’ll feel stupid when you’re drinking water or wiping your ass.
But then you’ll open instagram by accident… or you’ll go for the chocolate instead of salad and when you find it… boom. You found it. The thing that’s killing future you.
Don’t let your dreams die to ignorance.
Live life questioning.
Bon voyage, {{first_name|Gay Man}}.
