“Hey bro, which book did you learn these things from? I mean the psychology like "how to make people do what you want"

I have listened to 48 laws of power summary(10-20 minute summary/law), red 18 concise laws of human nature, little bit from laws of seduction by Robert Greene book. And I once tried reading The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli but it was too hard for me to understand.”

Look, I think it’s great you’re reading, I think everyone should be reading at least a book a week.

But here’s the thing:

That’s my idea. I didn’t learn that from one single book.

I read the prince, how to win friends and influence people, cashvertising, pre-suasion…. And the list goes on.

THen I’ve watched two copywriting courses which add up to somewhere around 180 hours long.

I’ve watched at least 500 hours of youtube videos about persuasion.

THEN I’ve spent a year writing emails about persuasion. (and longer writing actual copy)

Etc. etc.

The point I’m trying to make is that I took everything I learned from all my experience, and cross-referenced each book and idea to form a new one.

So I know it’s not the answer you want, but that’s how I “learned” that idea.

Here’s a more important part though:

You’re in what I call “book slop hell.”

You gorge on slop chungus books like the 48 laws of power and throw away masterpieces such as The Prince.

Let me ask you this, what has Robert Greene, the guy who wrote that book, done?

Fuck all.

The most important thing he’s ever done is write a book.

Then there’s Niccolo Machiavelli who became an actual word in the English language (Machiavellian) because of how influential he is. (among other notable things)

All this is to say: Read the great books of history

  • Read meditations

  • Read The Art of War

  • Read The Republic

I mean why in the world would you listen to some random nobody THAT'S STILL ALIVE… when you could read JULIUS CAESAR'S BOOK??

You want to learn influence? Maybe learn from the guy whose last name LITERALLY BECAME THE WORD FOR EMPEROR.

But nooo… “i’m too attached to my slop books. Let me read about more laws”

Brother.

If you’re deciding on what to read by how hard the sentences are to understand… you’re not reading the right books

So to you, and to everyone else reading this my message is:

Read great books, not slop.

  • copy john

P.S. (Subject line is not only women, it’s men too; I don’t mean bitch as insulting, just referring to a dog… as an analogy a specific set of circumstances not their ultimate worth… in the most respectful way possible)
