I dont think I’ve ever seen anything differ from this (apart from a few instances).

Well he used emotion.
And not just emotion, himself on the same level and used a common emotion between him and the reader.
This is why he was able to persuade people.
They felt like he understood them. He got them emotional. And then he stuck.
He said whatever he wanted them to believe.
And because of that built up emotion… they gave in.
Always use emotion.
