Here’s a tip for you.

You probably do not own a gun, but if you do, here’s a good thing to remember if a cop pulls you over.

Actually, I was going to tell you the answer straight away, but I want to use an analogy first, so you can see how absurd some people are in their emails.

It’s crazy.

So here’s option number one.

A cop pulls you over.

You sit there, the cop knocks on your window, and you roll it down.

Then, in one second, you reach toward your gun, pull it out, point it straight at him, and say:

“Officer, here’s my gun. I carry a gun. I just wanted to let you know.”

That is a good way to get yourself hurt or killed.

Or, the officer walks up and you say:

“Officer, I just want to let you know I am carrying, and I have a permit.”

Much better.

You are being transparent.

But you are not aggressively reaching for the gun, moving quickly, or making him think you are a threat.

And that is the point.

In the same way you would tell a cop about a permit during a traffic stop, you need to be transparent with customers.

But you cannot just aggressively throw the transparent thing in their face.

You need to say it normally.

Be upfront, but do not be aggressive.

Do not rush it.

Do not give them a super vivid image of the worst part of your offer when you could just explain it calmly.

For example, imagine you are selling a make-money-online course.

Maybe somewhere in the middle of the email, after they are already interested, you say:

“Alright, this course can help you make more money, but it is not going to be easy.

Making money is not easy.

You will need to put in work.

You will need to keep going when you want to give up.

But if you stay consistent and actually apply what you learn, you can get results.”

That is transparent.

Now compare it to opening the email with:

“You are going to fucking hate this stupid course. It is 60 lessons long, it is really hard, and it takes forever.”

That is technically transparent too.

But it is the equivalent of pulling the gun out and waving it in someone’s face.

I know that sounds crazy.

Why would anyone say that?

But people really do this in their copy.

Maybe not in the first line.

Maybe not that extreme.

But they spend the entire email being “transparent” in the worst possible way.

So there needs to be an in-between.

Be transparent.

But be transparent the right way.
