Yo back in the day (like during the roman empire) they used to give out free bread and hold massive public shows (AKA circuses).
At first you might think…
“Wow, that's amazing they actually cared about their citizens, why doesn’t my government do that.”

In fact, this “circus and bread” is keeping you completely dead broke.

The romans did NOT just give out free bread & shows because they… “felt like it.”
It was a systematic way to keep their citizens from rising up against the empire or realizing how shit their lives where.
