I just heard this story about Elon Musk and it perfectly explains why…
Good copywriters are effectively useless.
Long story short:
Elon was a major dork in college.
So when he somehow managed to set up an ice cream date with a super hot chick, he knew he couldn’t mess it up.
He figures out the spot…
He sets up the meeting point…
So on and so forth until the long awaited “date day” comes and Elon rushes over to her place right on time.
But when he got there, Elon was met with a note essentially declaring the date was off because she had to catch up on studying. (a polite version of getting stood up)
WAIT!
Stop right here.
Do you want to know what so-called good copywriters would foolishly do at this point?
“Well… 🤓 👆… no means no… there’s other fish in the sea.”
That pussy little thought would spread all throughout their brain.
And you’ll see what will happen next.
Before that though, let’s see what Elon does…
Instead of giving up like a little BITCH…
He rings up the girl's friend, finds out where the girl is studying, and goes to get some ice cream.
A few minutes later, Elon shows up to the library with melted ice cream and the girl falls for him on the spot.
Right, now let’s see what the “good copywriters” would do:
They’d stay home and the next day, they’d ask the girl if she would like to go to a better ice cream joint. But that obviously wouldn’t work.
Because the girl didn’t fall for the melted ice cream, she fell for his commitment.
It’s the same thing in copywriting.
Clients don’t choose the best copywriters… or the most known copywriters… or whatever you would think.
They choose the copywriters that don’t give up.
So even if you’ve only got “melted ice cream” as long as you just keep trying to get that ice cream in front of someone, you’ll win.
(if you do want some help with that melted ice cream though… might wanna check this out:)
