HR is lonely. It doesn’t have to be.

The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.

That’s what this newsletter delivers.

I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.

Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.

Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

Hey {{first_name|bro}},

The Romans weren’t the smartest, biggest or strongest empire at the start…

But they dominated the known world for decades.

so… why?

Well, it was their ability to absorb and adapt.

Those are the two traits you need to master if you want to become a successful copywriter.

Let me explain…

We’ve got two copywriters—John and Kareem.

John isn’t really the best at copywriting but he’s got the ability to adapt and absorb.

Kareem is basically a rock but he can write good copy.

Eventually, they both get clients. John starts off and he writes some mid ahh copy for his client.

Kareem goes and writes IMMACULATE copy for his.

They both get posted and… they both do terribly. I’m talking 5% open rates, 0% CTR and one angry client call asking them for a refund.

Luckily, they’re both extremely good at sales and buy themselves an extra day.

Kareem goes off and writes another piece of good copy.

But John?

He’s adapted this time. He’s absorbed the feedback.

And now, he’s not just going to write another useless piece of copy… instead he tries something new…

He ends up figuring out that all the emails are landing in spam.

You can tell what happens from here.

Kareem ends up getting fired because even though his copy was really good, he couldn’t adapt to emails going in spam (he’s homeless now).

John, on the other hand, fixes this problem and the next, and the next, and so on.

Because that’s what it actually takes to make it as a copywriter.

Moral of the story: adapt and absorb.
