Hey {{first_name|bro}},
After years of pondering, crying, and even reading copy…
After almost giving up…
After an existential crisis or two…
I finally found the answer.
And without further ado, the winner of the decade-long debate issssss….
Neither—it’s medium-length copy.
Nah just kidding 😂
Ima be honest, this debate is pretty stupid but that’s not surprising, seeing that it probably started on r/copywriting.
The real answer is, it depends. And you know what?
That’s the same for almost every single rule in copywriting or marketing as a whole.
A lot of people will tell you not to go over 300 words on an email—but that’s just a guideline.
Like for example, today I reviewed a piece of copy that was 500 words of AI slop.
The excuse?
“It’s a value copy, bro.”
No hate on the guy but value copy should almost NEVER be 500 words long.
Did you catch that? ALMOST…
If you’ve got the most saucest saucy email ever in the perfect place in the sequence with a beautiful CTA to more value…
But it’s 501 words…
Don’t delete it just because it’s that long.
Make sure that you said what you needed to say in the words you needed—nothing less, nothing more.
Because when you do that, your email’s never rushed, and your email’s never too long.
It’s always just right.
So in conclusion: only write long emails on the second autumn of the decade at 3:06 AM after you’ve done 100 circles round a big rock in west Germany.
Good luck!
