Here’s some of the best email advice I’ve ever gotten:

“I've got a challenge for you, and I'll be reading your emails to make sure.

Whats the challenge?

What do you need to do?

It isn't what you need to do, but more what you need to stop doing.

Can you guess what it is?

I've done it three times so far...

And since you're not a retard, im gonna assume youve figured it out - so yes. You are correct.

Stop. Using. Lazy. Rhetorical. Questions. To. Connect. Sentences.

Ive used 3 in this reply, and only one of them is a good use of the technique.

Which one and why? (This doesn't count cos ot isn't Rhetorical im actually asking you)”

This hefty blow to the stomach was delivered on an email where I really went overboard with the rhetorical questions.

And while it hurt, the advice was true.

Because after I stopped putting all those stupid questions in my emails, they did way better than before. And that made me realize: the things you need to hear the most are usually going to hurt the most to hear.

Like a little kid who’s being force-fed broccoli even though he wanted pizza. That’s the type of advice you want to be getting as a copywriter.

So, today, I’m going to give you your broccoli (AKA ten sadly true pieces of advice):

#1 Copy Is Only 20% of what most “copywriters” do. Because they’ve also got to deal with clients, upload emails, do shitloads of research, and a whole lot else. So don’t think that copywriting is enough to make more than $10k/mo

#2 Most copywriters quit. I don’t know why but chances are most of the people reading this are going to leave… so don’t be one of them.

#3 You do have enough time. I see a bunch of people saying they don’t have enough time, but really they’re just not making time for what’s important. Choose your tasks wisely.

#4 the thing you don’t want to do is usually the thing you should do.

#5 Your niche isn’t the problem, it’s your offer. Everyone says their niche is oversaturated, but really it’s that they’re using the same shitty offer everyone else is using

#6 You have to put in more than an hour a day. You guys should already know this but for anyone who treats copywriting like a side hustle: you’re going to fail.

#7 You HAVE to learn english. I see so many foreign guys coming into copywriting without knowing a lick of english, you have to be able to speak it fluently, read it fluently, and write fluently. Anything other than that is unacceptable, and you will actually fail.

#8 The client is always right. If you wrote a amazing piece of copy and your client “reviews” it… and proceeds to turn that copy into a steaming pile of dung (as long as you’re not rev share), you just let them do it. Don’t argue with them. It’s ok once or twice but at the end of the day it’s their copy.

#9 You CANNOT do copywriting faceless. Copywriting is HEAVILY dependent on sales.

#10 Copywriting is going to take you years if you don’t invest in coaching

Out of all of them, I think people probably hate #10 the most.

But I mean, they killed Jesus because he was telling the truth, so it’s not extremely uncommon that people don’t like the truth.

And you know, some of these aren’t all the way true.

It’s possible to do copywriting as someone who can barely speak english, doesn’t show their face, only shows up for 10 hours a day… etc.

But there’s a 0000000.01% chance that takes place.

Like here’s what chatgpt said:
